DotEU-Domains are up and running!

Most people are not aware of the change which occurred just last Friday. The European Top Level Domain, DotEU made it’s debut. With a initial base of over a half a million domains registered by the end of Friday, this is a definite success for the Top Level Domain. It will also allow further growth of the European Internet industry as the registration of suitable DotCOM’s is getting harder.

For a lot of international companies and businesses in Europe, it will make life a lot easier too. Instead of having to register a domain for each of the EU-countries, they can now register just one TLD. Which reduces costs and management.

Looking through the domains which were registered, there were a lot of one word domains which were registered by speculators. Of course there were trade, company and family names which where mostly registered during the sunrise phase.

In comparison to DotCOM’s, there is a lot of room for expansion with multi-word domains and, of course, the various languages within the EU.
